Mxogyny awarded Nurturing Talent Funding to make platform more accessible
Mxogyny are delighted to announce that Creative Scotland are supporting our accessibility work through the Nurturing Talent Fund. We have been awarded funding to make our creative platform more accessible to people with visual disabilities and neurodiversity. This work will include digitising our print publication and ensuring our website is compatible with screen readers and other visual aids.
The project
By offering more accessible formats and making our content available to a wider audience we can better accommodate the same range of audiences we are proud to showcase through creative contributions. What’s more, this project will give us the skills and software our team needs to produce accessible content long term, furthering our aim of improving accessibility to the arts.
This work is really important to us as our publication is intended to disrupt the arts by championing those who are marginalised within the sector. Being able to implement these improvements will widen our reach while equipping us with the skills to take future projects forward with accessibility at their centre. We want to make sure that those with disabilities can access our creative content in a way that is comfortable and enjoyable to make for a truly inclusive interaction with the arts.
The Nurturing Talent Fund
The Nurturing Talent Fund is a fund designed by young people for young people. It supports their creative ideas and ambitions, no matter whether they have lots of experience or they're just developing their interest in the arts. We are one of nearly 50 projects who received support in this round of funding – check out the others here.
Thank you to those at the National Youth Arts Advisory Group who selected our project for funding. Ultimately, we want our community to be a voice for accessibility and diversity in the arts, and to influence the sector to consider the barriers people face in trying to be heard and seen in it. We’re thrilled that this support will help us do just that.
